Okains Bay School
Okains Bay School is uniquely located with the estuary and river at its doorstep. We are the “jewel in the crown” of the Banks Peninsula region. The school is a full primary (Year 1-8), with children attending aged from 5 to 13 years. We have a commitment to providing high quality education for children in this age range. We are proud to be a full primary school, as we believe that the younger children benefit from having older children in the school to support them and to provide positive role models. The senior pupils benefit by being able to develop leadership skills through programmes offered at the school such as tuakana teina, buddy reading, and mentors.
The school values the partnership between whanau, akonga and kaiako. It is essential that we all work together to provide the best education available. One of the best ways to do this is through open and honest communication. It is important that you contact your child’s teacher in the first instance if you have any questions or concerns. At the beginning of the year parents are able to attend an informal afternoon/evening, to learn about the programmes for the year. During the year there will be scheduled interviews, however if you have any concerns please do not wait but contact the teacher and make an appointment as soon as possible.
At Okains Bay School we have a highly committed and skilled staff.
Whanau are welcomed into Okains Bay School. We are fortunate at our school to have parents and community members available to help with any class or community event as well as a small but very active community who raise funds and provide many resources for the akonga.
Okains Bay has a proud tradition of achievement, and this is made possible by setting high standards for pupils both academically and socially. Our role in education is to ensure pupils are able to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world. We have a commitment to literacy and numeracy success and for akonga to get to know themselves and their capabilities extremely well.
We hope the information in this package helps you to know and understand our school, but if there is any further information you require please do not hesitate to contact me.
